Abstract:
In today’s rapidly growing economy, business issues are ever-changing, requiring adaptability to stay competitive and maintain profitability. Businesses have to undertake numerous projects and effectively execute them meeting the project objectives. Managing
projects efficiently requires good people-management skills and team building qualities. Generally, behavioural issues such as decentralisation, decision-making, interpersonal skills, supervisory support and teamwork are key factors in effective project management however these issues are overlooked in project practice. This is where the project manager’s leadership skills and managerial behaviour become critical. The primary job of a project manager is to continuously develop effective leadership skills and influence the team members to increase the cohesiveness. This case study examines the aspects of leadership in project management and team building capabilities of a project manager.
This case study highlights the leadership traits and entrepreneurial skills of Prashant Lingam and Aruna Kappagantula founders of Bamboo House India (BHI), a social enterprise promoting bamboo products for sustainable livelihood for tribal and rural artisans. However, it is to be seen to what extent they will be successful in managing the venture in the long-run. As of now, the company is operating on a small-scale but when the business expands, will there be any chance of migration of artisans? If yes, then will the company alter its business model and change its objective to non-migratory? Will there be any change in its basic concept of sustainable development? Will it be successful in coordinating with various government agencies for getting approvals and promoting their business operations during expansion activities?
